In observance of Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrated annually on 28th May, an interactive talk-show style session on Menstrual Health & Hygiene was organized for the girls of Classes VIII to X on May 11, 2026. The session was conducted by Ms. Lidia Aksyonova (MPH, Master of Public Health, New York) with the objective of breaking social taboos and encouraging open, informed discussions about menstruation and menstrual well-being.
The session provided students with valuable insights into various menstrual products such as sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, reusable cloth pads, period panties, and menstrual discs. The speaker explained the advantages and limitations of each product, highlighting aspects of comfort, hygiene, affordability, safety, and sustainability.
An important part of the discussion focused on managing menstrual cramps and discomfort. Students openly shared their experiences and learned practical self-care techniques, including the use of hot water bags, light exercise, warm showers, adequate rest, and the importance of seeking medical advice in cases of severe pain.
The session also emphasized menstrual hygiene and healthy self-care practices. Students were guided on the importance of changing menstrual products regularly, proper disposal methods, maintaining balanced nutrition and hydration, and tracking menstrual cycles through apps or calendars.
The programme concluded with an engaging open discussion and question-answer session where students freely expressed their concerns, clarified doubts, and challenged common myths surrounding menstruation in a safe and supportive environment.
The session proved to be highly informative, empowering, and impactful. Students left feeling more confident, aware, and comfortable discussing menstrual health, while also pledging to spread awareness and support one another within their homes and communities.
“Menstrual periods are normal. Talking about them should be comfortable and natural.”
